Did you know the whole idea of Giving Tuesday was created as a social media initiative in 2012? And now it’s become a global movement of generosity! In fact, it’s estimated that 400 million dollars were donated to charitable institutions on Giving Tuesday in 2018.

That’s a lot of money doing a lot of good!

Look at that! Something really amazing coming from social media! Despite the bad rap it sometimes gets, social media can be a beautiful addition to our society.

We hope that you’ll take the time this Giving Tuesday to donate to a non-profit organization. We have a couple charities we are affiliated with and wanted to share them with you. We know the leaders of these organizations personally, and we feel confident that your money will be put to great use to help the people who need assistance most.

We are committed to making our city, Albuquerque, New Mexico, a better place. So both of our picks happen to be local to our community.

New Mexico Dream Center

The New Mexico Dream Center provides free compassionate services to the underserved and marginalized people of Albuquerque. This population includes youth experiencing homelessness, survivors of sex trafficking, trafficked minor children, and trafficked immigrants. No child for sale! You can donate here and find a winter wish list as well.

Shine Partnership

Shine Partnership facilitates long-term committed relationships between a church and a school with the goal of meeting the needs of students, families, and teachers. Shine seeks to bring together the mission and needs of the school with the resources of the church for the common good. Shine has a formal MOU with APS and is not a proselytizing organization. Donate here.

We are also involved in a Gift Mart for Shine Partnership. Gift Mart provides an opportunity for families in our community to purchase affordable gifts for their children. Parents and family members want to give gifts for their kids during the holidays no matter what means they have. It is our desire is to give them the dignity to do so, rather than just provide a hand out. The Gift Mart receives donations of new toys and sets up a Christmas store so parents can purchase the toys as gifts for a small cost. There’s also a sweet Christmas party for the kids to enjoy while parents shop. All the money collected goes back into the school so parents have to opportunity to contribute to the good of their community. To be a part of this initiative, donate new toys between $10-$25 and deliver them to New City Church, 6300 San Mateo Blvd NE before December 15. If you know of a family who could benefit from Gift Mart, send them to this link to register.

Happy Giving Tuesday!
